Watching Thor: the second time

Tonight I watched Thor for the second time, oh yeah! It was even better the second time, probably because I haven't seen it since it came out in May. Trust me I wanted to go to it in theaters more than once but you know how life gets. Anyway, though, I love that story. The entire subject of Norse mythology is awesome. I remember as a kid I was obsessed with Greek and Roman mythology and didn't really know much about Thor and the other Norse Gods, but now my interest has been piqued. It was really a visually astonishing movie with a great story to boot. As you may well know this movie version of Thor is based off of the Marvel Comics Thor which is based off of the Norwegian mythological thunder god. Since the movie came out I have realized some differences between Marvel's Thor and the usual depiction of ancient Norse mythology. Originally, Thor had a huge beard and reddish brown hair, I believe, but that's not as important to me as keeping with the original story. That may have something to do with the fact that I myself am a blond haired blue eyed dude like the movie version of Thor, but that is not the only reason. No, I also liked that they kept with more of the relationship between the people of Asgard and the Frost Giants. In case you haven't seen the movie I don't want to go into detail, so I'll just highly recommend seeing this movie. It's still at red box, at least that's where we got it from tonight. The cast is great, the visuals are great, and it has everything from heart pounding action to heart breaking romance. But not too much of that romance stuff. I had to write that because I felt a little weird after writing the words, "heart breaking romance." Any-hoo, It's a great movie and if you're following a long I may write more about Thor in the future and may also make some videos about him. In fact I have made some videos related to Thor on my youtube home workout channel. If you want you can check them out at http://www.jakeshomeworkouts.com/thor-workout/ Thanks for reading and have a wonderful day.

Sugarholics Anonymous - My short film adventure

Alrighty so this was a fun little semi stressful project. I wrote, directed, had a minor role in, and edited this short film all in my first semester of school since 2008. It was fun though, I just had this idea, put it on paper and really wanted to make it. So I did. I was able to enlist the help of some local actors and film makers to help me and I really appreciate the work they put into this all for free. Actors and filmmakers are either really crazy or really dedicated to put in all that work for non-paid projects. Well I like to think that we're a little bit of both. I think that editing was my biggest challenge for this project although securing a room and all of the necessary people was no small task either. I like to call this a rough edit because my editing skills seem to be sub-par. I have passed on the footage to a film making friend of mine in hopes that he may be a better editor and that we can one day just call this version the director's cut, or something like that. The actual film is about 5 people meeting together to support each other in their battle against sugar addiction. Their is Coach Tracy and the regulars, Tom, and Kelly, and in this video they have new comers, Denise, and Greg.

Grit Happens

Today on my youtube channel I uploaded a video called "Grit Happens." It's a parody of the True Grit trailer for the new movie. Because I am a novice and an evolving filmmaker I want to talk about the video and my experience with making it. Making videos is a lot of fun but also a lot of work. Especially when you play all of the characters, film the whole thing by yourself and edit it, which is what I did with Grit Happens. Not all of my videos will be like this but I got this idea and wanted to try it out. Thanks to the magic of chroma key or green screen I was able to make it better. Unfortunately because of a malfunction with my editing program the chroma key didn't work throughout the video as well as I had hoped. Although, I have done more successful projects with the chroma key before. The editing experience can be a real hassle when you have tons of clips to put together and you're using green screen because those things tend to put a big strain on the computer. Having said that, it was still a fun experience and I hope that anyone who sees the video will enjoy it. I'll say upfront that it's not world class material but you might just like it, and I kept it fairly short in case you don't. So if you're reading this go ahead and check it out on youtube, and have a wonderful day. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NCgs8U5WYrc
